Holiday Closings

 
Please find below how the opening hours change during the holiday season:

December 17, Tuesday: the Library's Main Reading Room and the Special Collections will be open from 9:00am until 1:30pm.

December 22, Sunday - January 1, Wednesday: all sections of the Library will be closed. Being open again as usual from January 2, Thursday.

December 21, Saturday - January 5, Sunday: the Ráday Collection will be closed.

EOSC Symposium 2019

 
One of the largest, yearly EOSC events, the EOSC Symposium will be held in Budapest on 26-28. November 2019.

The event will bring together the shakers and makers in the growing EOSC community to provide answers to the most frequently asked questions about EOSC. The symposium will see two intense and stimulating days for all stakeholders to contribute to discussion on the implementation of the EOSC.

Digitization of the photo archive of Aurél Stein Collection

 
On October 16, the digitization project of the photo archive of Aurél Stein Collection, part of the Oriental Collection of the Library and Information Center of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences was completed.

Over the past 89 days, colleagues from the Dunhuang Academy have produced 12080 electronic documents related to the collaboration between the Dunhuang Academy and the Library of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

The occasion was marked by a ceremony, where Deputy Director Luo Huaqing handed over the electronic documents to Director General István Monok.

Library closing information

 
On the 16th of October (Wednesday) the Library will be closed due to pipeline maintenance by Budapest Waterworks.

Update: All public computers are available and ready to use.

Due to server maintenance the public computers located in the reading room will not be available in the morning on the 16th of September, Monday. We expect the computers to function again from midday onwards. The Wi-Fi network access will be undisturbed.

Public holiday closure

 
Due to national holiday the Library will be open between 9am and 5pm on the 17th of August (Saturday), and closed from August 18th to the 20th (Sunday – Tuesday).
We reopen on August 21st, Wednesday.

Modified microfilm related services

 
Due to relocation, our microfilm related services will not be available from August 14th to August 25th. From August 26th onwards, microfilm documents will become available to our readers from 10am next business day after requested.

The Oriental Collection is being closed from July 4 to August 30, 2019 due to renovation. After renovation we reopen to our readers on September 2nd.

Staying European

The role and responsibility of libraries in the preservation, accessibility and promotion of European cultural heritage

 
The conference is jointly organized by the Working Group of Libraries and Documentations Units for Research in East, East Central and South Eastern Europe (ABDOS), the Library and Information Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (Magyar Tudományos Akadémia Könyvtár és Információs Központ) and the Southeast Europe Association in Budapest between 27-30 May 2019.

The conference languages are German and English (unfortunately no simultaneous interpretation will be available).

Participation in the conference will be free of charge for members of the Library and Information Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

Maximilian Teleki visited the Library of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences

 
Maximilan Teleki, the president of the Hungarian American Coalition visited the Library and Information Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences on 13th March. Mr Teleki had a discussion with prof. Dr. István Monok, general director.

In the course of the visit several documents related to the Teleki family, including the establishing letter of count József Teleki who offered his 30,000 volume library to the Academy in 1826, were presented to Mr. Teleki.
